April 27, 2009 God Is Not Overwhelmed
Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 2; 1 Chronicles 11; Psalm 142; Matthew 14
Scripture Focus:
Psalm 142:1–3
I cry out to the LORD with my voice;
With my voice to the LORD I make my supplication.
I pour out my complaint before Him;
I declare before Him my trouble.
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,
Then You knew my path.
Observation:
Does the Bible ever apply the word “overwhelmed” to God? What a silly question! Of course not! God knows the beginning from the end. In fact, he works all things out for the good of those who love him. He is never overwhelmed. He’s not wringing his hands or worrying about the outcome of anything.
But WE get overwhelmed. We can’t see the outcome, and it makes us nervous. We often don’t know which way to turn. Doesn’t it make sense to place our trust in one who knows what our path should be?
Application:
I’m really feeling overwhelmed with things that must get done this week . . . or at least things I’ve scheduled to get done. It makes sense to cry out to the Lord with my voice, to make my supplication, to pour out my complaint before Him and declare that I’m really in trouble this week—and trust that the One who knows my path will lead me this week.
Prayer:
Abba Father, show me the path I should walk today, and keep me from being snared by things I should not be doing.
