May 16, 2009 Set Apart

Today’s Bible Reading: 1 Kings 1; 1 Chronicles 28; Psalm 91; 1 Thessalonians 5

Scripture Focus:

1 Thessalonians 5:23–24 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

Observation:

To sanctify is to set apart, to make holy. God takes on this task for us, and he’s interested in all of us, our spirit, soul and body. He wants us to stand before Jesus blameless when Jesus returns.

This is a hefty goal, but Paul assures us again that it is God who will accomplish it.

Application:

God’s goal for me is sanctification—being set apart for God, being holy and blameless in body, soul, and spirit. That should be my goal, too. If I see myself as set apart for God, it will influence the way I live my life on a daily basis.

Prayer:

Abba Father, I give myself anew to you, body, soul, and spirit. I’m yours. May I bring honor to your Name today.
