May 30, 2009 What Am I Thinking?
Today’s Bible Reading: Proverbs 13–15; Romans 11
Scripture Focus:
Proverbs 15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD,
But the words of the pure are pleasant.
Observation:
This verse focuses on two important areas of Christian life: our thoughts and our words. The first thing to note is that our every thought is known to God, good or bad. The second observation is implied: our words come from our thoughts, so if our thoughts are pure and pleasant, our words will be the same.
Application:
It’s easy to forget that God knows my thoughts. I may be able to disguise my true self when I speak, but my thoughts will show who I really am to God every time. It is a worthy goal to take every thought into captivity to the Lord, and to be so tender to the voice of the Spirit that I’m aware immediately when my thoughts are off track.
Prayer:
Abba Father, you know my every thought. Cleanse me, O Lord, from every impure and unpleasant thought, and may my speech be gracious indeed.
