June 5, 2009 True Beauty

Today’s Bible Reading: Proverbs 30–31; Psalm 33; Ephesians 1

Scripture Focus:

Proverbs 31:30–31 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.

Observation:

How well do I know that beauty is passing! The flower of youth seems like it will last forever, but one day you look in the mirror and it’s gone. What does last is my relationship with God and the fruit of my hands.

Application:

Am I more interested in my inner or outer beauty? Sure, it’s nice to look as good as one can, but the important thing is to cultivate the heart relationship with God and to overflow with good works.

Prayer:

Father God, it’s easy to be selfish with my time, to focus on me and what I want. Instead, may I be a woman who fears the LORD and who performs works worthy of praise.
