June 22, 2009 My Legacy
Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Kings 8,9; 2 Chronicles 21; 1 Timothy 4
Scripture Focus:
2 Chronicles 21:20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king. He reigned in Jerusalem eight years and, to no one’s sorrow, departed. However they buried him in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
Observation:
What a pitiful thing to say about a king of Judah: “to no one’s sorrow, he departed.” Here’s a king (Jehoram) whose actions endeared him to no one. They were glad to see him go.
Application:
Someday I will go the way of all mankind and leave this earthly realm. What kind of legacy will I leave behind? I’m building that legacy day by day, and I hope it will be such that people will be sad to see me gone. More than that, I hope that my investment in others will live on.
Prayer:
Father God, may I live in a Christlike way so that others will benefit from my having lived.
