June 25, 2009 Stir Up Your Gift

Today’s Bible Reading: Joel 1, 2, 3; 2 Timothy 1

Scripture Focus:

2 Timothy 1:6–7 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Observation:

God has given every believer a spiritual gift that he intends us to use to edify and strengthen the body of Christ, but often the gift lies dormant within us, unused and neglected. Perhaps we’re afraid to use it, or we feel inadequate, or we’re simply too selfish with our time.

Paul tells Timothy to stir up the gift within him and reminds him that fear isn’t from God. What God gives is power, love, and a sound mind. What a picture of humble strength!

Application:

What gift do YOU have, Linda? Are you exercising your gift for the good of the body of Christ? Are you standing strong and unafraid in the power and love of God? Stir it up! See your time with the kids in the nursery as a teaching opportunity, and not just a baby sitting job.

I’m reminded of the seminar by Wayne Cordeiro at Foursquare Convention where he talked about developing leaders in the nursery and with the young kids. Wow! What a privilege it is to be part of the training of future church leaders!

Prayer:

Father God, give me spiritual eyes to see opportunities to use my spiritual gifts to edify and build up the body of Christ.
