July 4, 2009 God Doesn’t Change
Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Kings 15,16; Hosea 1; Hebrews 1
Scripture Focus:
Hebrews 1:10–12 “ You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They will perish, but You remain;
And they will all grow old like a garment;
Like a cloak You will fold them up,
And they will be changed.
But You are the same,
And Your years will not fail.”
(Quoting Psalm 102)
Observation:
The writer of Hebrews says that these verses refer to Jesus. Jesus made heaven and earth, and as awesome as they are, they are only temporary. Someday the world as we know it will be changed. There will be a new heaven and a new earth. It’s amazing to think about!
But one thing won’t change. God does not change. As Hebrews 13:8 says: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.
Application:
Hebrews 13:8 is our denomination’s slogan: Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever. By that we are declaring that we have the same power in us to live victorious lives and serve others that Jesus passed on to the disciples through the Holy Spirit.
God doesn’t change. He is the one who creates something out of nothing. He can do that in my life as well, if I let him.
Prayer:
Father God, you have created the heavens and earth. What great thing would you like to do through me today?
