July 6, 2009 Pursuing God
Today’s Bible Reading: Hosea 6,7,8,9; Hebrews 3
Scripture Focus:
Hosea 6:3 Let us know,
Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD.
His going forth is established as the morning;
He will come to us like the rain,
Like the latter and former rain to the earth.
Observation:
Know and pursue—these are the two states of mind when it comes to God. There are some things about God that we know, and we keep adding to that knowledge as we walk with him, but there is so much more to know, there are depths of knowledge that can only be hinted at.
Hosea invites us to pursue the knowledge of the Lord. Not meander, not trudge along, but to pursue, as one runs a race, as one hunts for treasure, as one woos a lover.
The promise is there—God will come to us when we pursue him. It will be like rain on dry, crusty soil. Rain that is essential to our sustenance. We will drink it in.
Application:
The things in life I’m pursuing right now are temporary. The going forth of God is as established as the morning. Someday, in the not too distant future, I will lay down all that I’ve sought after in this world and enter the eternal realm. I will enter Forever. What I do now, what I seek now, will not only determine what happens then, but will color everything about my life here and now.
Prayer:
Father God, come to me like the rain. I’m thirsty for you.
