July 17, 2009 Anger Problem

Today’s Bible Reading: Isaiah 29,30,31; James 1

Scripture Focus:

James 1:19–22 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Observation:

Anger is not a godly characteristic. James tells us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. How can we overcome a propensity toward anger? James gives us the answer: Read the Word of God with humility of heart, and actually do what it says.

Application:

Most of the time the issue of anger comes down to pride versus humility. The wrong kind of anger comes from a proud heart that is demanding its rights. The humble person does not clamor for its rights nor demand justice nor complain loudly. This is definitely an area where I need to grow.

Prayer:

Father God, I have seen myself in the mirror of the Word of God today. May I not walk away unchanged.
