July 19, 2009 Peacemaker
Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Kings 17; 2 Chronicles 28; Psalm 46; James 3
Scripture Focus:
James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Observation:
Godly wisdom is pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Just reading those descriptive words gives me a feeling of peacefulness, as if I were standing in the presence of a saint so powerful they did not have to say a word to win me over. Who could fight against such actions?
Verse 18 tells me that peacemakers deliberately sow peace and get the fruit of righteousness in return.
Application:
God gave me a chance to make peace today in a situation that had remained unresolved for almost 12 years. I wouldn’t have known what to do if I hadn’t watched the Peacemaking video series. Making peace is powerful, but it’s the opposite of what we want to do by nature and can only be truly accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit of God through us.
Prayer:
Father God, you have said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9) Help me to always be a peacemaker.
