July 20, 2009 Life Is A Vapor

Today’s Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 29, 30, 31; James 4

Scripture Focus:

James 4:13–15 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

Observation:

James is speaking specifically to me—a business woman. He’s reminding me that life is a vapor, and yes, make plans, but keep God in the mix. Life is a vapor. God is eternal. Don’t forget it.

Application:

Don’t put business in a priority over the things that are of ultimate value in life—God, my family, my relationships. I’m in a danger zone right now with that. Pushing hard this month. In every plan for the future, I need to say, “If the Lord wills . . .”

Prayer:

Father God, will you please help me make it through this time of deadlines, and help me plan better for the future so I can keep my focus on the people that matter?
