September 3, 2009 The Sabbath Is A Sign
Today’s Bible Reading: Ezekiel 20, 21; Psalm 111; Revelation 8
Scripture Focus:
Ezekiel 20:12 Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them.
20 hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.’
Observation:
There’s an interesting observation in these verses. The Sabbath, a day of rest, is a sign between God and me that shows two things: that God sanctified me (set me apart for himself) and that God is my LORD. It’s an acknowledgment of God’s lordship in my life.
Application:
A Sabbath day isn’t just for me to rest and enjoy my own pleasure. It should draw me closer to God, and remind me that I belong to God, that I’m set apart for him, that he is the boss of my life.
Prayer:
Father, as I enter this new season, help me to keep a sabbath weekly. May it be a holy day, as well as a day of rest.
Scripture Focus:
20 hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.’
